Welcome to BALLERINA-L!

What is BALLERINA-L?

  • A bill-board for announcements of relevance for all those concerned with issues related to environment, natural resources, and sustainable development in the Baltic Sea Region.
  • A place to share Baltic environmental news -- in a very wide sense -- with others interested in the region.
  • A forum where you can ask questions, or answer questions from others, concerning environment, natural resources, and sustainable development in the Baltic Sea Region.

What's the purpose of it?

  • To be a convenient, easy-to-use and dynamic tool for rapid dissemination and updating of information, for legitimate inquiries, and for discussions on questions of mutual concern to those concerned with environment, natural resources, and sustainable development in the Baltic Sea Region.
  • It is designated especially to information-sharing and communication on these issues and, in this respect, to the role of the Baltic Sea Region in Europe and in the world.

... and what should it NOT be used for?

  • Information and announcements of a very general nature, not specifically relating to the Baltic Sea Region or its specific role in Europe or globally. However interesting your general information might be, please keep in mind that BALLERINA-L is a list for the Baltic Sea Region.
  • Commercial advertisements or similar announcements made only with the purpose to promote commercial initiatives or products.
  • Lengthy messages with lots of very detailed information. Please, keep messages brief and to the point. If you feel that you have much information that needs to be conveyed, please invite people to obtain that information directly from you. Let subscribers make that choice.
  • Private communication between a few people. If you wish to reply to a question or comment on an announcement, consider carefully before you send your own message whether it will be of use and interest to everyone on the list or whether it is actually meant for one or two persons only.

Do I always have to contribute something when visiting?

Can anyone use it?

  • Yes, anyone can browse and search the BALLERINA-L Archive to find announcements, news and discussions. However, if you want to contribute messages (postings) yourself to BALLERINA-L, you have to be a subscriber (see below) to the list.

OK, I want to try. Can anyone subscribe to BALLERINA-L and just go ahead?

  • Yes, provided that you agree to some ground rules commonly recognized on the Internet. In short, we heartily welcome you as a subscriber to and user of BALLERINA-L on the terms that you adhere to decent Internet conduct. The list is initially not moderated (but will be later on). Thus, regarding netiquette it should initially be managed as largely self-policed.

And if I don't like BALLERINA-L -- can I get out?

BALLERINA-L has been created as a part of the BALLERINA initiative
