HTML/Web Design Training/Workshop for Environmental Actors in the three Baltic States
Background:
The BALLERINA initiative (http://www.baltic-region.net/about/) has as a prime objective to bring more substantive and relevant information on environment, natural resources and sustainable development from and about the Baltic Sea Region. For 1998, the Swedish EPA has provided funds for a HTML/Web Design Training activity for the three Baltic States to facility increased or improved Web publishing by institutions with restricted capacities and skills in such matters.
Objectives:
1. To improve the skills in HTML editing and web design
2. To facilitate the development of new on-line information resources.
Methodology:
Mainly 'information product' oriented training leading to a final or prototype information resource in English (preferably in conjunction with national language) intermixed with lectures, demonstrations
Venue & time (to be confirmed):
Arendal, Norway, 10 - 18. September 1998 (arrival Arendal on 9th).
Number of participants:
Approx. 12
Selection of participants:
The selection of participants will be done by the BALLERINA lead parties; UNEP/GRID-Arendal and Stockholm Marine Research Centre, in co-operation with BALLERINA Advisory Board members from the Baltic States based upon a number of criteria:
· institutional credibility and recognition
· pertinence of proposed information resource/product to be developed
· confirmation that the information resource will be completed upon return
· general computer and environmental training and experience of proposed participants
· English skills of proposed participants
· Good diversity of institution types
Topics/tools covered:
The topics will to some extent depend upon the participants:
HTML 3.0/4.0 and extensions, other document formats, frames, meta-tagging, document & site structuring, graphics (GIF, JPG, animated graphics), graphical and web page design. Various web browsers , web editing tools, conversion tools, graphics software.
Cost
All cost of the participants including travel to and from Arendal (flight APEX fare), accomodation and board, pocket money, course material etc. are covered.
Application/ Final decision:
A one page free text application covering the criteria and considerations above (selection of participants) including full contact information. Application deadline: June 30. Final decision on selection: July 13 by e-mail.
